John McGarva
Global Head of Design Engineering, Hair Care, Dyson
John is an experienced engineering leader with broad experience in product development, technology, design and manufacturing. He is particularly experienced in healthcare, industrial and consumer goods, and has a strong track record in programme management, technical and design leadership of complex multimillion dollar projects. John joined Dyson in 2018, and today leads a 100-strong design engineering team developing the next generation of hair care technologies, such as the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer, Dyson Airwrap styler and Dyson Corrale straightener. John graduated with a PhD in Design & Manufacturing from Brunel University and he also holds a First Class honours degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde. Before moving to Singapore in 2018 John lived and worked in China where he met his wife Lulu. They enjoy looking after their 4 and 5-year old sons, especially going swimming, climbing and cycling. John is active in his local church leading small groups, volunteering in the community, and mixing live music on Sundays.
Abstract
Design engineering at Dyson is all about solving problems other people ignore.
